Our Impact

Inspired by our love for nature, our climate and sustainability,  The Smartel way is deeply rooted in hydroponic technology, smart irrigation, and IoT sensors that significantly enhances climate resilience in agriculture by targeting smallholder farmers in vulnerable communities.

90%

Our model saves approximately 90% more water compared to traditional farming methods, ensuring sustained crop growth even during droughts.

150+

We have equipped over 150 smallholder farmers with the tools they need to navigate climate challenges and embrace sustainable farming practices.

75%

By utilizing 75% less land, we optimize agricultural space, allowing communities to grow more food in smaller areas while reducing the environmental strain associated with expanding farmlands.

Our innovative approach isdesignedto significantly enhanceclimate resiliencein agriculture, particularly for smallholderfarmers who are most affected by climate change.

More on our climate.

Traditional agriculture is resource-intensive, relying heavily on water, land, and fossil fuels, which contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Smartel’s approach, built around hydroponics, smart irrigation, and renewable energy, addresses these challenges head-on, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

First, our hydroponic systems eliminate the need for soil, which reduces the reliance on large-scale land clearing and minimizes soil degradation—a major source of carbon emissions in traditional farming. By using 75% less land, we help curb deforestation and the carbon emissions associated with land conversion for agriculture. This reduction in land use also preserves forests and natural ecosystems, which act as carbon sinks, further mitigating climate change.

Second, Smartel’s 90% water savings drastically cut the energy needed to pump, treat, and distribute water compared to conventional farming practices. By conserving water, we also reduce the associated carbon emissions that come from energy-intensive water management systems. Additionally, our IoT-driven smart irrigation systems lower water use by up to 60%, which minimizes the energy required for irrigation processes, thereby reducing the overall carbon footprint. Traditional irrigation systems often waste water through overuse, leading to unnecessary energy consumption and higher emissions.

Smartel’s use of renewable energy to power these systems further drives down emissions. Unlike conventional farming, which often depends on fossil fuels for machinery, irrigation, and transportation, Smartel’s systems integrate solar and other renewable sources, significantly reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and cutting carbon emissions at every stage of production. By optimizing land, water, and energy use, Smartel reduces both direct and indirect carbon emissions from agricultural activities. This 30% reduction in carbon footprint translates into a more sustainable, climate-resilient form of farming that not only boosts productivity but also actively combats climate change.
